Join the West Ottawa Ladies Chorus for an interlude of “Musical Memories”
Sit back and enjoy this blast from the past concert to be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Kanata on Sat. April 28, 2018. It promises to be a swinging evening of nostalgic songs, under the direction of Robert Dueck and aided by the piano stylings of Chorus accompanist and jazz pianist Peter Brown.
Called “Musical Memories” the Spring concert performance will feature a variety of repertoire. There are some great songs from the classic swing era: "I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover" is a song from 1927, written by Mort Dixon with music by Harry M. Woods; "It Might as Well Be Spring" is a song from the 1945 film, State Fair with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II; and “Charade” is the classic theme song from the 1963 movie by the same name, distinguished by its jazz setting and lilting Parisian melody.
Concert lyrical repertoire will include “The Night Shall be Filled with Music” – with text based on a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; the colorful text of “I’ll Paint you a Rainbow” and the classic favorite “Edelweiss”.
From yesteryear to contemporary ballad style music and songs from popular musicals, the audience will enjoy many a memory lane tune and will have the opportunity to sing along on a few classic favourites such as ‘Side by Side’, ‘Chapel of Love’ and the ever popular 40’s hit “Sentimental Journey’.
